My boy has a tennis racket. His best mate Dan has a tennis racket. His big sister has a balcony on the first floor of our house. She gets mad when the boy and his mate knock tennis balls onto her balcony. It’s great sport!
Our house has a flat roof with a single drain in it. The drain opening is slightly smaller than a tennis ball. It rained last night. And our house leaked. Mostly because the tennis ball was acting as a plug and water on the roof was almost knee deep.
Strangely, once the tennis ball was removed the water stopped pouring through the light fittings 🙂
Small boys have alot to answer to!
Cute story – I was actually out yesterday playing awith my boys after school. Kyle, who just turned 5, has one wicked swing … especially when he actually hits the ball.
[…] My son plays soccer and his team has lost only one game this season. The neighbours boy’s team has lost none. Yet my son’s team is in a higher grade. Surely this points to a random allocation, and not actual grading. […]
At least your son is into sports. Most of the kids these days, especially boys, would rather play tennis, basketball, etc. on PSPs, PCs, Arcades, XBox, Wii and lots of other techno gadgets. For me, the clogged was worth it. Anyway, thanks for posting this. Enjoyed reading this.
Indeed. I am, apparently, a vile mother because they don’t have any of those things. Just tamagotchis and their appeal is short lived! It’s interesting when he has friends around.
Those with the gadgets wander around aimlessly and can’t wait to get home.
Those without create mayhem and noise and roar around happily. It’s harder work, but I much prefer these kids!
It’s different with girls, they seem happy to dance and play regardless. The contrast isn’t there!
Ah, Yes – one little tennis ball. Came across this while Googling for “tennis ball in drain”. At least your drain was a little smaller than the ball. Mine wasn’t!!
Recently it rained, pretty hard, for the first time in a long time. I was awakened to the sound of running water. Unfortunately, running water cascading from our entry ceiling. The drain for our roof was totally clogged. Now the entry was the drain. After total trauma, peered down the drain pipe, and it just looked like the bottom. Then, to my horror, saw the telltale pattern of the seams of a .. tennis ball!!!
So that first rain had floated the tennis ball, (kids!) into the drain, which happened to be 3″ iron pipe. just large enough to allow a tennis ball under duress – but not so large that it flushed down.
Tried vacuum cleaners (too much hair on the ball), heated screws on the end of a pipe, pipe snake, …. nothing worked.
finally cut a section of the pipe out and flushed it out. What a royal pain in the behind. Needless to say, now have a screen on the drain!!
Oh Keith, that does not sound good. I’m so glad I wasn’t in your house that night!
🙂
