Over on Digitalpoint I’ve had the ability to see where people really are for a while and mostly people are where they say they are. Its always a concern when people try to be somebody they’re not and so now at the top of your posts we can now see you “fun” location and your “true location”.
We all have to come from somewhere and its not that we should be proud of it, but we definitely shouldn’t be ashamed. We are who we are and its what we make of our lives that really matters.
In the meantime… have a laugh at these fakers
Edit
I was requested to remove any national bias so I’ve deliberately handpicked equal numbers for India and Pakistan but the rest of the grid shows that they are not alone – and one of the Pakistan fakers isn’t there but wants to be. Actually, India is one up because I couldn’t leave out the Las Vegas example. So much unnecessary detail!
I noticed that the Indians were more likely to give their location as a web address than a fake real world address.
This is hilarious man. I never noticed it earlier. But now that you mention it, I will not be able to miss it 🙂
And then just to keep us on our toes we have this chap who is dreaming of home?
Interesting that most of the “fakers” are from the same few countries. As a long time digitalpoint lurker I can say it is usually quite easy to pick up on the fact that you are not from the US or UK, so why bother.
Too true, however I think its quite useful to “cut the crap” right from the start.
Although I am too from one of these “fakers'” countries(Pakistan) but I don’t get it why would anybody want to show fake location to dp members.
@Jay Eliot
Most of the traffic to DP comes from these “fakers'” countries. From where do you think all the cheap service providers come from? Yeah they don’t come from United states of America.
@Sarah
Posting 4 fakers from my country and only 2 from India makes you look like a racist B#$%^&&^. But it seems you have a “thing” for us I have been reading some of your posts in P&R.
Hi Lala
The inbalance wasn’t intentional… just the first few that I found. I’ll balance the load. Only India you have a problem with? Thought so.
As for P&R I only get involved when posts get reported and I get drawn in and can’t help myself. If anything my Algerian buddy has drawn the most flak for his whole “Muslims aren’t allowed music” nonsense.
Oh Jay, honey, just realised who you are. I posted in your thread. Love the photo on your website.
@Sarah
This is great. Thanks for editing your post. Now it looks fair. 🙂
I don’t have any problem with Indians or anybody else. I have met many Indians on DP who are friendly and honest in dealing.
Also nothing wrong with music. If you knew any Muslims in real life you could ask them. 🙂
Thanks again.
How do you know they aren’t using something such as TOR? I always use TOR when logging into DP, even though I live in NYC, it would show my “True Location” as anywhere in the world, from Russia to Pakistan to Germany to Sri Lanka.
Yeah, right!
Sarah,
Tor will do exactly what Joe says. Check it out some time:
http://www.torproject.org/
I wasn’t doubting the validity of TOR, just the assumption that all these people are TOR users.
The whole point of the True Country system isn’t to make people feel ashamed of their country. Personally, I could care less if someone is from India, Pakistan or Iran.
No one has to fill out the “Location” field, but when someone goes out of their way to make false claims about being from somewhere like “Texas, USA” and in reality they are in Nigeria… chances are they are doing something shady.
How many of them Indians try to offer content writing services in the BST claiming to be native speakers?
My guess is that the Karachi location was using a USA VPN .
Although there would be very few, some would be people who actually live somewhere else, but happen to be away for whatever reason. For example, live in USA, but are in Afghanistan in the military. Or live in Pakistan, but are going to school in the USA.
