I’m trying to put up a quick mambo site for the Waitakere BMX club. I like solar flare but wanted something a bit easier on the eye for this site so went hunting for free templates.

Forgetting for a second that it’s a cardinal sin to set values in $_GET, $_POST or $_REQUEST I’ve found an interesting little thing… or maybe I’m only finding it now because I don’t commit cardinal sins…

When you are writing a custom module or component for Mambo you can have parameters which are set in the Admin control panel and feed through to the application at run time. This allows the same code to have separate instances with distinct differences.

The major forums seem to have nasty little threads popping up left, right and centre about corruption at DMOZ. It’s hard to believe there’s anything other than the occasional individual having a go, but some are claiming orchestrated campaigns.

One of the first things a PHP coder will bang into is Unix Timestamps and making them usable and readable. I’m currently trying to work with some very simple shell scripts in Unix and now I actually WANT raw timestamps, but noooo, can’t get them. Outrageous.

I found this quote from Metacentric today
